Sally
and I go to the Michigan race
and attend the fan club meeting
every year. Rusty signed autographs
for everyone. When it came our
turn I asked Rusty if he would
be in his shop on Friday. It was
an off week for racing, he said
yes he would most likely
be there. I told him we would
be coming through Mooresville
about 1:00 pm Friday and were
going to stop.
On
Friday we leave Ohio and head
south. My daughter and son-in-law
and 3 kids in one car, my
wife and I, and 2 other grand
kids in another. We got to Rusty's
and were standing in the viewing
room looking at the cars when
Rusty walked through the garage
area and all the Kids hollered
at the same time, it's Rusty!
He turned and waved at everyone.
A few minutes later he came
around in back of us in the reception
area. Someone saw him and we all
went over, and he greeted everyone
and got pictures out of the drawer
and started signing them for the
kid's.
Boy
were they excited. I finally got
to talk to Rusty and told him
how glad I was he was there because
my son-in-law told all the kids,
"Grandpa said we're going to stop
at Rusty's and he's going
to be there." So you saved me.
Rusty just grinned and said "It's
3:00, you're 2 hours late."
I couldn't believe he remembered
me, much less what time I told
him. There were over 1200 members
at that meeting. Needless to say
we all left happy, and Grandpa
was a hero...Dean and Sally, Akron,
Ohio.
