Before the Brickyard 400
was a race, they had 2 days of tire testing the
year before, right after the July Talladega race.
All the big names came to Indy and security was
low, so we had great access to the driver's motorhomes,
semi's, etc. I got several autographs, had some
nice chats with Mark Martin (my husband's favorite
driver) and talked to a few of Rusty's crew. The
second day of the tire test, still no autograph
from Rusty. I was bound and determined not to leave
without it. So, he came out of the garage area and
I walked w/him every step of the way, while he was
signing for kids, etc. He was going up to his motorhome
to change and I pretty much begged him to stop and
give me the autograph. He stopped, but only 2 feet
from going inside his place. I almost had to go
up there, because I was gonna get that autograph.
It was well worth it (even though it has somewhat
faded)! Also, been to his shop in Mooresville after
the Coca Cola 600. It was pretty cool to see the
cars, trophys, etc. I was amazed how clean the shop
was. Unfortunately, no chance meeting with Rusty!
